In a special episode of Andscape at the Olympics, Andscape columnist William C. Rhoden is joined by award-winning novelist and Paris resident Jake Lamar to talk about renowned Black writer James Baldwin on what would have been Baldwin's 100th birthday. Baldwin, who died in 1987, was born in Harlem, New York, on Aug. 2, 1924.
Lamar talks about Baldwin's history and matriculation to Paris, how the famous writer followed in the footsteps of his writing idol, Richard Wright, the complicated relationship between Wright and Baldwin, and more.
