How to get event data using event object ?

Whenever an event like click, mouseover etc.. occurs the relevant data about the event is placed in to the event object.
The event object contains event data like:
X and Y coordinates of the mouse pointer when the event occurred.
HTML element that fired the event.
Target element that was clicked.
Event object is always passed to the event handler method.
