Hard to find this story in British history books ..the biggest fleet the English had ever put together around 200 ships and 35.000 men .

Don Blaz de Lezo holds the absolute winning record of battles - zero losses -, together with D. Álvaro de Bazan.

grew up not far from the Caribbean port of Cartagena and Blas de Lezo's statue in front of the San Felipe de Barajas fortress reminds me of my youth days. The place is magical, designed to repel all pirates attacking the city! Pirates of the Caribbean to me = Cartagena. Nowadays it is a UNESCO world patrimony and a beautiful city worth visiting. Great video mate.

Blas de Lezo y Olavarrieta, defended our Cartagena against the greed of the english crown. So humiliating defeat it was the king banned any commentary or document about that war.

The story of this amazing bloke, WHO WAS ON THE WINNING SIDE IN EVERY SINGLE BATTLE HE WAS IN, should be made into a series of movies. In contrast to pirates, he was never involved in attacking the weak to kill, rob and destroy their property purely for selfish gain.

Omg. This man was so physically battered through his career. First, his leg, then his eye, then his arm. This guy was a tough Spanish naval officer. A warrior.

If this hero was english we would have Holliwood film about it every year, we would all study his victory at school and absolutely everyone would know about him. He would be as known as characters like Napoleon.

Typhus had something to do with the defeat .diseases affected both parts, Englishmen being more affected ?...maybe.
But the key factor was the skillfulness of De Lezo, a really creative, experimented and effective militar. Most probably one of the best.
You can check it out.
Great video . Thanks from Spain .
