We have the same variant of the DSi XL nice. It is by far the best way to play DS games since it has the largest native screen and good, bright, and colorful displays. The pen stylus is soo good to that you never want to revert to a regular-sized stylus after using it.

The DSI XL was my favorite DS of all time. I will never forget the time I had with it playing Pokemon and Sonic.

Fun piece of trivia: Nintendo actually had dual screen game and watch handhelds back in the early 80s. The DS actually shares a lot of similarities to it.

I just grabbed a DSi XL about a month ago for less than 50 bones and modded it with twilight menu. I've been loving it. I had a DS and a lite back in the day, but had totally forgotten how much fun it was. I always loved the DS Castlevania games, and a few others, but the game lineup is huge, and so many fun, unique games. The unique, quick touch screen based games make me think of like a universe where phone games hadn't turned into microtransaction slop. Fun little time wasters with unique gameplay. I love it.

I loved this video but I have to say something haha. What you lose with a 3DS on image quality, you win by a lot with the catalogue of games you can play compared to a DSi.
I have a New 3DS XL and getting the pixel perfect resolution gives you the DSi standar screen size, with also the 3DS catalogue and other emulators. So it is about what you want to sacrifice.
About the rest of the ideas you said, 100% agree. I love the NDS with my entire heart.

I bought a white DSI XL last May when I was in Japan and I finished Yoshi's Island DS on it. Currently playing Explorers of Sky. Best purchase ever. Can't wait to replay Black/White. 😄

I added a switch to change the crystal to have fast forward in pokemon on my dsi xl!
I just know having played emulation devices, i can't live without fast forward in pokemon, if only someone made a dual screen emulation device.
But until then, the clock mod is sufficient for me, you should do it too!

There is an extremely rare holy grail version of the New 3DS XL which come with 2 IPS panels instead of the typical lcd, in that version all DS games looks just fantastic, I once got to have one and on top of that it was a snes exclusive edition, sadly i was forced to sold my treasure because of money, now i regret because for me that was the best DS Version of all time.

Finally someone acknowledges the dsi xl. I dream of someday getting a pristine dsi xl for a decent price. For now I'll roll with the one i found at goodwill a couple of years back.

The DSi XL is the best way to play DS Games for me. Both IPS screens so it's not a gamble on what you're buying. The screen resolution being the same as the ds but just bigger have it look so crisp and for me, another big thing is playing rythem games, specifically ouendan/elite beat agents. On the smaller ds models it is just harder to play and I felt like I was getting much more miss-inputs than on the dsi xl, or maybe I just wasn't used to it.

Pro tip: to play DS games on the 3DS in pixel-perfect mode (ie original resolution with no stretching), hold the Start button right after you select the game. Works for DSiWare too, including Twilight Menu

The only thing I don't like about the DSI XL is that it does not have a GBA cartridge slot. At least you can run then natively through modding though.
