It's because the monster is facing to the right, so you will never see it facing to you.

Or... it's not looking directly at the screen....It's facing to the side slightly. So yes the indentation on the mask could very possibly put all sorts of bumps onto the antlers to make them look more rugged.

Though msm isn't particularly realistic in its artstyle so it just looks more out of place here.

Still, it's facing to the side is why it seems so noticeable.
