In the previous lesson, you have learned that matter undergoes changes by physical or chemical means. When matter changes, it may result in something that eventually finds no use and is considered as waste material. Wastes are unwanted materials formed from the leftovers or by-products of something else. If poorly managed, wastes may harm the environment by polluting the air, land, and bodies of water. This condition may lead to more serious problems like the spread of different diseases associated with poor sanitation, thus, putting the health of the people and other organisms in danger. To prevent these from happening, the production of wastes must be regulated.
