How to save the U.S. Postal Service, 'the last holdout of true private communication'

Amid record-breaking bailouts for big corporations, the Trump administration has repeatedly blocked attempts to include the U.S. Postal Service in COVID-19 stimulus packages. President Trump bashed the USPS on Friday for alleged mismanagement and lost revenue. But Mark Dimondstein, president of the American Postal Workers Union, says Trump's remarks are part of his agenda to privatize the Postal Service. "They would like to sell the public Postal Service off to private corporations … [and] turn it into a profit-making entity," says Dimondstein, warning that giving private companies control over the mail would mean the death of "the last holdout of true private communication."

The USPS delivers mail and parcels to EVERY address in America and is a vital public service. It would be great if they could compete with the payday loan sharks and put them out of business.

The post is a public service that no private corp would allow to reach mail boxes at mountains and valleys since that is not profitable. However, it connects all of us.

Their objective is to destroy Public Service all together
And, replace it with a predatory capitalistic folly.

Please send snail mail to your Congress Reps, go to Move ON for info or just look up their addresses. It matters to use the post office NOW - too soon letters may be the only safe way to communicate

If need be we should be prepared to build up a network of autonomous community mail distributors. The government is serving the wants of the few rather than the rest of us. It’s time for us to realize they will not pity us and we deserve none. In fact we should take responsibility by dismantling this parasitic system as much as we co-operatively can.

The UK Royal Mail and Post Offices were sold off years ago. Totally agree with this speaker.

One good reason why people need to vote in November, save to Post Office, remove some restrictions so they could extend their business.

Been watching them be defunded gradually over the last 10 years, no surprise. Watched my own city de-fund a public landmark then claimed it was falling apart structurally, which wasn't the case, they just let it get shabby on purpose so they could build something new through a contractor friend of the then mayor. Project was scrapped after it was found out but the landmark was demolished anyway. Point is I see this happening with all publically funded services just be be replaced by corporately owned replacements.... Schools are next. I know we'll just get Bernie to save us... Oh wait... Our corporately own government won't allow that... We are (the 98%) 🤐🤐🤐

Make China, Haiti, everyone.... pay the same international forwarding rate
It's sometimes cheaper to mail a small package from China to from LA to LA.

Today, there's a three tier system.
Negotiated via whom?

The Post Office has been failing for decades. This isn't a recent problem. The USPS hasn't been able to get it together for such a long time. Part of the problem is the fact that they need to run any changes through Congress and both parties have been playing games for so very long.

It's not that difficult to fix if you keep politics out of it. Income needs to be equal or greater than out going expenses. If there is more going out then you need to reevaluate what you are paying workers, pensions, building and transportation costs and see if they are too high. You also need to look at the prices charged for services. If they aren't covering expenses then you need to either raise prices or cut expenses or both. The USPS should be allowed to do what is obvious without Congress.
