Common Regular Polyhedra Origami
Senior Project Proposal Student Name: Napin Singhasaneh
School : Satit Kaset International Program
Project title: 3D Illustrations of Common Regular Polyhedra Using Origami
Principle and Rationale :
Sometimes in science and mathematics, students have to study ideas that are abstract and difficult to see. Polyhedra can be constructed and illustrated in 3D paper models by origami. These 3D polyhedra models can help students understand the nature of the crystals and other structures found in the real world.
Tetrahedron : water and ammonium molecules
Hexahedron : salt crystals
Octahedron : fluorite, diamond and alum crystals
Dodecahedron : garnet and diamond crystals
Icosahedron : viruses (e.g. herpes virus), buckyball (truncated icosahedron)
This project also emphasizes on creativity and visions of each individual. By emphasizing on creativity and the polyhedra shapes, we can enlarge the people's idea of how these illustrations works and how useful it can be in the future classrooms.
5 common regular polyhedra : tetrahedron, hexahedron, octahedron, dodecahedron and icosahedron
Science for Fun
