The Best Atari ST Arcade Ports Ever!

Hey whatsup Guys OSG back with another Best Arcade ports video and today it’s the turn of the Atari ST. The Atari ST gets a bit of a bad wrap really as it was normally credited with being the source of some really bad Amiga games. But it did actually do a great job on some Arcade ports especially the Atari made Arcade games. The rivalry between Amiga and ST owners was right up there with the C64 vs Spectrum and at the time I hated the ST but in the last few years have bought one and I have to say it’s a really good system…and actually surpasses the Amiga on some games…but ill cover that in another video.
Ok so with me not being too familiar with the games on the Atari ST this list has taken a little longer than normal but I think I’ve picked 20 cracking games that show that the Atari could knock out a great arcade port.
So without more delay let’s take a look at the 20 best Atari ST Arcade ports Ever!

Moon Patrol
Joust
Bubble Bobble

The New Zealand Story
Gauntlet II
Super Off Road
Pang
Starwars

The Star Wars cockpit was my favourite ever arcade game, and seeing the full size Space Harrier on the last day of my summer holidays blew my mind

I'd put Rainbow Islands on the list as well, amazingly good conversion.

I was an Amiga500 kid back in the day and had nobody at school with an AtariST so i find this all very interesting. Thanks for doing this video.

Thanks for making an ST centric video, ST fans appreciate it! - some great games listed too, real favorites of mine - especially Supersprint, amazing fun with 3 players.

Always loved the way on Moon Patrol your buggy's suspension reacts exactly the correct way to the landscape. Gives the game a proper sense that your buggy really is driving over a rocky landscape.

I never owned it because at the time I had the Commodore 64 and then I switched to the Amiga 500, but I remember that seeing an Atari ST in operation at the end of 1985 was like being the protagonist of a science fiction movie, especially in Italy, where the first consoles like Atari 2600 and Mattel Intellivision had been marketed only three years before.

So many great Atari ST memories for me. As someone who couldn't get to the arcade so often. It was great to please these on the ST and have them capture that arcade feel.
Thanks for the video.

Great video !!! The first that comes to mind is all the battles we had at the arcade playing ”Sprint”. Aaah, sweet innocent youth ; where, oh where have thou gone? Star wars, off road and buggy boy were awesome on the ST. Never got to play any of the others on the ST. New Zealand story got a shorter run on my A500 though.

Being a Amiga owner back in the day like you, I remember being really fed up with the constant ST ports that wasn't doing justice to the Amiga's capabilities but it was what it was and after 30 years I guess I've chilled and finally got over it! I remember some of these games on the Amiga and some are great, the Star Wars port looks spot on, I'm gonna check it out later. Great list m8, the extra time yer putting in these vids shows too, they look class :)

I forgot about blasteroids. Awesome game. I had an ST and later an Amiga so I played many of these games on both.

I have fond memories of my ST, it’s the system that I first learned 68000 assembler, fun times.

Super sprint is one of my favorite games ever. I had so much fun playing with friends.

I’m looking forward to more ST content. Great job as always.

It was always the way the Atari ST sounded for me as my mate had one an yeah for the most part it was on par with the Amiga for looks the sounds always sounded like it was in a tin can imo. The banter that was had tho was great and i think am safe to say the Amiga won as a year after he got an ST he got an Amiga 😅. Great video as always buddy so roll on the next one, tkae it easy buddy.

The Atari ST was the 'poor man's Amiga'.... I had an ST and didn't regret it for a minute. Sure, the Amiga was great, but I didn't have the money.

I'm so glad I had the C64 and then the Amiga 500, and not the ST. Wow got lucky there!!

Good list! Star Wars and Joust are both spot on on the ST. A few games that I think deserved to be in your top 10 here:

Double Dragon 2: The ST port of DD2 is the best home version of DD2 apart from the NES but the NES game is different, The ST port is closer to the arcade, better actually as it doesn't slow down.

Toki: Toki on the ST is as good as the also very impressive Amiga port.

Silkworm: Silkworm is the best horizontal scrolling shooter I've played on the ST, from the 80s at least. Recently someone has ported Defender to the ST and its arcade perfect.

I also like the ST version of Paperboy but its let down by not having any speech which was a big part of the arcade. Speech was present in Gauntlet 2 for the ST so it probably could've been done with Paperboy too for 1+ MB machines.

Great list of classic arcade games. Enjoyed it, will mention Bubble Bobble looks to be running a tiny bit slow, imo.

Ah, Joust! Many hours (and coins) spent in the arcade playing that game and many more hours spent playing it in my Atari ST at home. There was also a reasonable port to the GBA, too.

Anyway fella, thanks for the video. Just catching up on your channel a bit. Surprised to see an Atari ST feature here tho, thought you were a Commodore boy through and through! 😁
