Jada Pinkett Smith opens up about her experience with hair loss l GMA

The actress shared on Instagram how she is embracing her alopecia journey.

I had a health problem and surgery and my hair came out in handfuls. It looks like it is growing back. This is hard. I am glad she is talking about this.

That's a brow lift scar that she claims is from Alopecia Areata. Alopecia doesn't create a nearly perfect linear scar. It doesn't scar at all in fact. That's a surgical scar. The patches from Alopecia Areata are circular and oval in shape.

It's not scarring Alopecia which is caused from inflammation. It permanently destroys the hair follicles.

If she does have Alopecia, it's probably Traction Alopecia which is not autoimmune and scarring is very rare. It's caused by mistreatment of the hair. Tight styles, chemicals, weaves, heat. It is fully reversable if caught early.

The other form of hair loss if she has it could be female pattern hair loss. (Age, hormones or genetics cause this type)

I have some autoimmune disorders and one of them is alopecia areata, (scarring alopecia), which means there is nothing I can do about it. I have way more bald spot than Jada, but I definitely understand what she is going through. Stay strong, I have come to the realization, it's only hair and it could be something much worse. Look for your blessings in everything.

So I’ve been looking closely at pictures from the oscars tonight her head is shaved to a couple mm and i dont see a bald patch nor did it get more. That small patch on top could be a scar or due to stress. And there are way more ppl with bald patches than some would think. But hey whatever

I give her major kudos. It happens to soooo many women, not just men. And I think bring candid and embracing it shows amazing guts snd good inner self pride. She is so beautiful she can pull it off too!!!

I'm preggers and already have a receding hairline and am worried about postpartun hairloss. I sympathize with Jada but to an extent; she's such a classic beauty with her headshape and bone structure. I, on the other hand, have neither and will look like a sexless potato head with a big nozzle. I'm not saying beautiful people don't suffer but as Dita Von Teese said "the sun shines warmer on them.".

Has anyone noticed in recent photos and videos where Jada has a few days hair growth, and it's not shaved slick bald, that she seems to have a head full of hair, with the exception of a little line that looks like a scar? What is going on, and why am I the only one pointing out the Elephant in the room?

As soon as I saw Jada's scar on her scalp, I knew it was from a Coronal brow lift. What a disappointment that she is trying to blame it on hair loss instead of owning that she had a cosmetic procedure.

I think her hair might have fell out due to all the different things she has done to her hair. Her hair has been many different colors and many many drastic hairstyles. If you do too much to your hair, eventually it will fall out. I don't know if she has alopecia or not. Wearing tight hairstyles will take your hair out. I do wish her the best!

I had no idea that Jada announced she had alopecia, because I do not watch her show "Red Table Talk". I wondered why she cut her hair off as I have seen MANY Black women cutting their hair close to their head. At first, I thought it was a fashion craze, but now I know she has admitted to having this disease, I know why she did this.

It was very cruel for Chris to make a joke about Jada's hair being short. Making a joke like that about her is like making fun of someone who has any serious incurable disease.

Now I totally understand why Will Smith, her husband made the move to slap him, and make that comment he did. Will was highly upset. I am standing with Will & Jada.
