Swapping stations allow you to lease a standard battery for everyday use and then swap it for a more powerful battery for long distance travel. This reduces initial cost and weight of the car.

Similar design that could be because I recently read a rumor somewhere that NIO has been involved in developing that swap station. And why shouldn't they if it's true? Patents partys brings money! Thank you Marcel what a great channel you have!

Most of us dont need a large battery pack for daily commute. Make the EVs more affordable/attainable with a smaller battery pack, let say 50kwh. And when we need a larger pack for a long distance trip, we stop by one of those battery stations to swap to a larger pack for a one time rental cost. I see this can be a great option in the USA!! But they have to spend a lot of money to spread the stations like Tesla super chargers.

Charging infrastructure is still at its infancy. Battery swapping makes a lot of the range issues less of an issue. Especially when you consider that these can be leased to fleets and consumers.
Nio has found a different approach to the charging station and it has substantial promise over the long term.
