Guam's Strangely ABANDONED Beach Hotels

This is a video i've always thought about making. Even more, I would love to get an inside view of these hotels to see what they really look like. Since it might not be safe or a good idea to do so, i'll keep my distance.

Did you know Guam has 2 big abandoned hotels right on the beach? It's such a shame that this beach front space is going to a waste for the last 2-3 years. Hopefully things will change in a few years.

Do you know anything more about these two hotels? Have you stayed there? Let me know in the comments what you think/know about them.

Thanks for watching and see you in the next one! :)

I stayed at the Guam Marriott for nearly six months in 2009 and 2010. It was a little dated back them but great to stay in. The Hotel staff was great! It had a great beach with an awesome reef to snorkle over.

I stayed at the Sherwood sometime around 1998. We were sent by an employer in Hawaii. Some of those hotels were victims of the collapse of the Asian 'tiger' economies in 1997. They were also battered by some strong typhoons, with no funding for repairs.. The hotel was also damaged by strong winds and the windows leaked every time it rained at night. Very few occupied rooms . Just a skeleton staff working and the pools were filled with algae. At the time, there were some restaurant chains on the first floor still operating (Tony Roma's was one). I cannot believe the building is still there. Brings back memories, enjoyed it.

Thank you for sharing your video! It is sad knowing that the Pacific Star has been closed down & not in service anymore... I used to sit in the lobby & just enjoy watching the plenty of tourists running in and out

Sherwood was long abandoned before 2021. Back in its glory days it was a popular hotel for Chinese and Taiwanese tourist. After the 2002 typhoon it was fixed up and turned into a massive spa. It was abandoned after 2015. The Pacific Star use to belong to the island nation of Nauru. Back in the 80's when they use to be rich. I use to work there back in 2009 when they were borrowing the Marriot name. They had a good Dim sum restaurant and big ball rooms. The interior was kind of 90's vibe.

I left the island about 10 years ago. I remember when these places were still in service. And the Pacific Star was the Marriott.

If you use Google Maps/Streets, you can still "walk" around this area, back around to the pool and even inside the Pacific Star. Beautiful hotel! So sad to see how it is now in this video! Ypoa Beach sure has changed, SO MANY new hotels, since I was there in the late 70s!!! Stayed at the Hilton when we got there and the Reef when we left. They're so different now, so much grander! Had a wonderful time on Guam! Great, great memories!

Hi Matt…had to change the noti so I can watch it every time you upload.

So sad to see those abandoned hotels. How is tourism in Guam especially that area? I always wanted 2go2 Guam but didn’t because I think there weren’t that many airlines that I could fly standby back then. I didn’t wanna get bumped 😂. I went to Fiji, Tahiti n Bora Bora instead where I had plenty of airlines to choose from.

Sofitel Hotel just recently closed for business here in the 🇵🇭. I just hope they remodel/renovate and not abandon it just because it’s built more than 50+ years ago. The good thing about the 🇵🇭 is there are a lot of investors. There are so many projects going on right now.

It's so sad to see the Pacific Star (formerly The Marriott) closed. I went there several times for the spa and it was a beautiful hotel that had good restaurants, rooms, ballrooms and spa. I hope it gets back in running. Pacific Star is such a great name for a hotel in Guam. Great memories of that place.

the owners of these properties should be fined everyday they aren't remodeling or removing these structures.

Hafa Adai, when I lived in Guam in the past I never seen any abandoned hotels in Tumon and the area was thriving, but I guess with the Typhoons, Threats of War, Covid and the weaker Japanese Yen it all took it's toll with Guam's Tourism Industry, since Guam's main source of Tourism is East Asia.

Guam is in a Prime Location, and that island has the potential to become a smaller version of Singapore.

As mentioned the Pacific Star was previously the Marriott. The name changed in 2014. I know this because my wife and I got married there and had our reception in the ball room in June of 2014. It was a beautiful place. Sad to see it in this state.

Finally someone doing this for our home it really is ridiculous all these buildings are useless taking up space for nothing and the government would rather keep the money provided from the U.S for themselves there is barely any progress of any construction, roads still have not been fixed properly even after receiving millions to do so the government cant even build a new prison its 1000% ridiculous they'd rather spend on police cars like they dont already have enough barely even enough response vehicles guam lacks plenty due to the greed of our government...
