It can but the gitzo locking system helps to minimize it as much as possible. Of course you can but the next series higher than what you think you would need and thereby enlarge each section - but again the Gitzo locking system makes it super sturdy at the joints - almost like they were the same piece.

I need a tripod to use in the typical windy conditions of my area.. Should I go for a heavier tripod instead? Im afraid these tripods won't be sturdy enough..

We prefer gitzo over RRS tripods - RRS tripods have an issue with the legs coming loose - every one we have personally seen has loose screws where the legs attach at the top.

Any thoughts on the TVC-33 from really right stuff, how does it compare to the systematic?

Hi Rodrigo, Regarding windy conditions we recommend a tripod with a larger diameter leg or you could hang additional weight from the center hook of the tripod. It also depends on the size of the telephoto lens you are using—the larger the lens, the higher series tripod you should use.
