Most of the problems of our time - like religious and political fanaticism - could be eradicated by skeptical thinking.
Three cheers to Michael for promoting this marvelous mindset.

It reminds me of the old joke,

Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!" He said, "Nobody loves me." I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"

He said, "Yes." I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?" He said, "A Christian." I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me, too! What franchise?" He said, "Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?" He said, "Northern Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"

He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region." I said, "Me, too!"

Northern Conservative†Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912." I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over.

Well done, big fan of Shermer. As a woman I would really love to see you have a feminist on who talks about trans gender issues and how women's struggles for equality are basically being taken over and hijacked by the trans community. It's a serious issue and people are too scared to talk about it. I think you may have touched on it with Milo but it really needs to be spoken about. Thanks!

Thanks, Dave!
If there's one thing I've always been a fanboy of, it's skepticism, which is quite ironic

Wow was a teenager who became born-again in the 70's through a Presbyterian church. Then went to a Christian University, near Pepperdine. And my parents weren't religious, but no against it. lol!

First clue. When your friend says, " no no that's the wrong one".

I like that his examples for type 2 cognition levels were 'Maybe I shouldn't make that investment, ' 'Maybe I shouldn't marry that person, ' 'maybe I shouldn't buy this company.' That betrays a bit about the world he's coming from.

There is as much a secular Eschatology as there is a religious one. The end is comforting. It ties a bow on the project of humanity, and frees us up from being critical of history. Alarmists on all sides are guilty of this.

Is it possible to trust science to much? Is it possible that their is an inherent evangelism in science? Has our completely submissive embrace of science's miracles, the cascade of technology, been a good thing for the species, by and large?

Michael Shermer is like Sam Harris's older brother. That older brother that gave him knuckle sandwiches, wedgies, pushed him around and called him names. But at the end of the day, after a long day of fishing on the creek, to a back drop of a beautiful sunset, Michael would tell Sam that he's pretty cool, and he'll be a skeptic yet.

LOL, I'm an ex Jehovah Witness. Dubland is the force that pushed me into skepticism.

I love when skeptics pretend life has any value or meaning. The sooner we can collectively overcome the conscience, the sooner we can start to really have fun.
