Best video I've seen of this thing this far thanks in part to awesome audio, and no excessive talking.

One time I took two tabs of Isd and had auditory hallucinations that sounded exactly like these reverberations. Maybe it was a little lower pitched, but for like a full hour of this trip I could hear very frequent but singular reverberations. Every few seconds I would hear another, all of them seemed to be from different locations, behind me, directly in front of me, 500 feet away, or even inside my head. Wasn’t necessarily unpleasant I just kinda strange but I do remember the morning after I found this video and thought it was an identical match.

It's so cool how the individual impacts are downchirps. Maybe because you never tend to think of sonic refraction, only light refraction, but this right here is a prime example! A sharp pulse (the impact) getting refracted by transitioning from the ice into the air.

I heard these sounds recently at a lake and wondered what it was. Thanks for posting it.

This is really cool, I have never tried that. Maybe one year I will be brave enough to conquer The Yaak winters but it will be a little more acclimating on my end :) lol. Thanks for sharing.

I once threw my mother-in-law on the ice (by accident...). Never heard that sound again.

I wonder how it would sound, recorded with an underwater microphone.

There was a great video just posted to r/wtf of a guy skiing across a lake with thin ice. Every time it cracked underfoot it made this same laser gun noise. And holy crap was it cracking. Every second or two new cracks would form right under him. The ice looked no more than a foot thick.
