Venizelos Graves – Crete | Greece [4K]

The Venizelos Graves are a site and attraction next to the historic church of Prophet Elias in Crete, where the tombs of the charismatic Greek politician and seven-time Prime Minister of Greece Eleftherios Venizelos and his son Sophocles Venizelos, who served for short periods as Prime Minister of Greece in the mid-20th century, are located. The tombs are located on the eastern outskirts of Chania, the politicians' birthplace, approximately at the beginning of Akrotiri and on the road to Kounoupidiana. The park where the tombs are located is idyllic with a pine forest and panoramic views of the city of Chania, which makes it one of the city's main attractions.

The municipality of Chania celebrates the anniversary of the bombardment of 9 February 1897 every year and lays wreaths at the statue, which was unveiled on 21 July 1997.
