As a member of the Coastguard myself I can't thank you enough for making this video. Some very good advice that I wish more people would take note of. I find it terrifying how little some of the casualties that I have dealt with know about tides and rip currents etc. Thank you again.

Great vid. Grew up on Pacific coast, and this is the only vid that mentions all the big problems with the shoreline. Rip tides (been there, lucky to get out), sneaker waves (clamming and getting slammed), offshore winds 25+ mph piling up high tide crashing surf to 10-15' high (!, been there done that clamming bare clothed, dad and friend got thumped and washed across the beach with their stupid rubber waders, had to rescue them), Leadbetter Point, Washington coast, quicksand beach sinks cars, same issue being caught on rocks and high tide crashing surf coming in, beach cliff erosion (visited 30 years later, and the entire beach was washed out with beach cliffs 30+ ft tall), ... so many issues of being on any beach, let alone of fishing offshore with all the many other problems therein.

Sound and important advice.     A lot of information, but would add to it that the tide comes in and out twice a day.     Broken down into smaller parts, this would make a very useful, educational mini-series.    Thank you for sharing lads.    D.

A lot of good information bro. Problem is now days there will never ever be an app for common sense and I think most younger generation need an app for just about everything these days, they have lost the ability to think for themselves which includes common sense. I maybe wrong but smart phones seam to rule more and more lives.

even as an athlete it can be tough to fight the current, I've spent time in many open water races and Ironman events going nowhere much as you hit a rip tide, and even worse when you are being battered with waves, so for a oridnary occasional swimmer it would be impossible to sustain that effort required not to be drown or dragged out to sea.
