Funkadelic was an African American music band most prominent during the 1970s. The band and its sister act Parliament, both led by George Clinton, began the funk music culture of that decade.

Lyrics
I'll stay
For she'll be coming back
You know her head went out to play
She'll get over that
I know that my reward
When she returns
Woo-woo!
Keeps me hanging on
I'll stay

I'll stay
Though friends they ridicule
You know for her there is no substitute
Talk I can endure (I must endure)
But that's alright, mother says "Son"
Know my reward
When she returns (whoo-whoo)
She'll still come home, whoaah
Keeps me hanging on
I'll stay

You know her head went out to play
That's all right
The girl will get over that
Lord, my reward is gonna be much greater
Every night, lord, is gonna replace her
And if another girl decides she wants to go home
Wait right there
Wait right here
Wait right here
I ain't goin' nowhere
Wait right here
Wait right here
I'm gonna stand right here
On this ground and wait

Can’t believe as a guitarist I’m just now learning about funkadelic. This song brings me to another world. It’s so beautiful, funky, yet cryptic and deep and somewhat horrifying. What a masterpiece.

There's just nothing like funkadelic. I saw them over 30 times while growing up and never got bored of their concerts ever. Not for a minute. The music is so layered, textured, and intelligent.

Best guitarist in my opinion. He could bring bumps to your skin while making you jam ;-) A true artist in every sense of the word. Eddie was underrated and I am glad GC introduced us to him.

This was one of the most under appreciated songs on this L/P, meaning no air play.

This song is so special to me. This is still a moment that I cherish & loved with and then for somebody with everything in my heart, even if we didn't make it as together or in tact as we once believed to be. I regret nothing & wouldn't change anything. Ever. I hope that you are ok & living well.

I met MR. Clinton at the airport and asked him for his auto, he signed and drew me a dog smoking a joint. Love you guys you always kept it Real.

Back in the 70s when I was a blinkered kid, only into Hard and Heavy Rock,   the word "funk" put me in mind of Disco, and led me to steering clear of two great bands - Funkadelic and Grand Funk.  Now I'm in my 50s I'm discovering what I missed...and kicking myself.

Listening and honoring the passing of my elder cousin this week. A 'Funkateer' received his wings... and funk is its own reward.

Just listening to this song alone, I can already tell that I need to get into their whole discography. The kind of jams where you enjoy every song on each album.

Ron Bykowski's howling guitar, Eddie's soulful middle solo and Bernie's tasty woo Wah keyboard dubbulations. My bass player was originally a jazz head but he liked this tune. We'd get lifted and sing this song. Soon after, he became a funkateer.

This is my first time hearing this and I'm amazed at all the different instruments and people and the talent they have to make such a beautiful song and melody.

I heard this song on a soundtrack and immediately I had to find it and reminisce of the times I used to sing it years ago while playing my bass 🎸💕
