Transit workers, advocated push back against MTA's possible cashless system

Your cash will no longer be good on New York City busses or subways if the MTA implements a policy its toyed with for years – a cashless system.

Transit workers and advocates gathered outside the Broadway Junction subway station in Cypress Hills on Tuesday to push back against the idea saying it discriminates against disabled and poor people. They also say that a human is needed inside the token booth to help with issues that arise.

Why are they trying to get rid of booth workers? They need to be there in case something happens to the machines and they are supposed to be the backup for metrocard purchases including providing forms to report metrocard issues and as well as in case something happens in the subway like an attack or robbery, they need to be there to respond to call 911; not all passengers have good Samaritan personalities.

Even though I don’t usually pay with cash I wouldn’t want credit or debit to be the only option. What if I run into a problem where my debit/credit card stops working? I would need to pay with cash and if I can’t, then I can’t ride the train.

Way I understood it, there would be vending machines for OMNY cards, so maybe it won't be entirely cashless unless you need a bank account to buy an OMNY card
