Thanks for the help! I was looking up some tweaking for star wars the old republic and it popped up asking to run smart guard and I knew it was a virus, I look it up on my phone and automatically your video popped up and I watch and did every step. You are awesome and thank you!

Thank you so much for this video!  I watched it on my iPhone and performed the steps you highlighted and it worked precisely as described.  I wish I had found your video about 3 hours earlier as all other posts on the Internet did not resolve the problem.  Your video saved my PC and my sanity.  Thanks again!

First malware I've had for ages. That owned mcafee all safeguards were turned was all off with the opening of one innocent looking zip file
After ages trying different solutions this finally worked
The code provided by another commenter worked for me
And when I ran malware bytes it updated then said killing known malicious processes please wait
At this point mcafee suddenly started to work again and
A dialog box form them said it had quarantined generic.rt
Then after waiting ten min the malware bytes program started its scan so make sure you wait it takes a fair wile from stopping process to running
Thanks uploader you are a life saver my PC is functioning again yay

You don't always have to unhide hidden files to get into hidden folders. Most system folders Windows has hidden, only has the main folder hidden while the folders/files nested inside are not.

If you happen to know the name of the folder, you can just type it in the address bar (by tacking it's name on to the exiting path) and you can manually navigate to it without unhiding it or showing the hidden files/folders from the Folder Options dialog. :P

Though many times the exe files and the actual infected files may be hidden so you'll find your self having to show hidden files anyways.

It seems to have corrupted only one admin user and I can access all other functions through another user on the computer. Is there a way to remove it using the other admin user on the computer?

Do you know that Malwarebytes Antimalware are able to fix file associations which has been damaged/modified by rogue security software? Even if you have a rogue which damage exe file associations, you can still use Malwarebytes Chameleon. Malwarebytes Chameleon itself won't fix broken file associations, but Malwarebytes Antimalware will. Just make sure you set Malwarebytes Antimalware to detect PUM (Potentially Unwanted Modifications)
