I think I still can't over the princess' scene when she was locked in a room, it was emotional to me as a kid. I still can't get over it, and I am in my 40s. Karateka was a very good game back in the day, I am glad someone decided to do a 3D remake.

I keep forgetting there was a full remake from 2012, I’m curious if the docu-compilation, the making of Karateka aka Digital eclipse gold master series vol. 1 will at least acknowledge this in a chapter

Love this story, it's like a classic legend of Trojan war - princess Helena had three suitors: Heracles, Achilles and Theseus, but she has chosen the weak boy, the future king of Sparta.

Before Jordan Mechner became really famous for Prince of Persia, he made this little gem of a game (the OG version).

With all due respect to devs who stuck with it for that long making and remaking this game, it's worth no more than morbid curiosity I have for looking up old classic games I owned. Then again, if this Karateka rabbit hole is that deep, maybe I'll pursue it further.

I can't believe that they thought a game this simplistic needed onscreen tutorials. Are gamers today really too lazy to read a manual, which could lay out everything you need to know to play the game, in a single paragraph?

No wonder today's gamers think older games suck, they can't be bothered to actually READ the instructions.

The OG Karateka was like a cheese 80s action flick, the main character was your typical blonde headed 80s American karate guy, fighting an over the top karate dojo holding a hostage. This doesn't capture the essence or feel, regardless of the graphics.
