The future of the Falkland Islands is being discussed again, after they were excluded from trade deals between the United Kingdom and the European Union.
The British overseas territory will not be part of any commercial, tax or customs agreements negotiated.
And, as Al Jazeera's Teresa Bo reports, Argentina's government sees an opportunity.

The UK is starting to learn what a 3rd country is outside of the EU.

This came as a surprise? Did you think the Falklands could stay an EU overseas territory even after the UK left the EU !?

The Falkland island is apart of the British. The Falkland people voted 99.8% in favour to stay British. 🇫🇰🇬🇧

Uk wants to remain united as "United kingdom". But when it came to brexit, the plan was: "England alone policy".

EU is just salty. A very powerful state opted to stay out of the union.

Well, Falkland, Channel Islands etc. were never part of EU (or UK) anyway and UK always emphazised they run their own affairs. Why complain? EU made a withdrawal agreement with the UK not some obscure islands that were never part of EU. Anyway, you could not expect the EU to think of them if the UK forgot them

We did the right thing, including Thatcher's decision, by saving these islands and the Brits living there. Argentina had no more rights to the islands other than their disingenuous claim that the islands were closer to them and was 'morally' theirs. In fact the Falklands islands are many hundreds of miles - just over 400 miles off their coast to the border of Argentina and 1900 miles to Buenos Aires. The Argentinians had the cheek to call Britain colonialists when they are made up of Spanish colonialists who savagedly murdered in brutal acts of genocide and enslaved the indigenous people of the Argentinian lands. The Argentinian government today glosses over their genocide and bad treatment of the indigenous natives and they use the Islands for nationalistic political gain with the feeble minds of some Argentinians going along with the brainwashing. To this day they treat the indigenous people as second class people who have fewer rights than the Spanish origin people.

Technically France has more of a clam to these island than Argentina since they first established a colony on the island in 1764, one year before the British found the islands 1765. Though in this case when the France lost the settlement in the 7 years war, they didn't really care.

So at the end of the day, why does Argentina clam the islands, I can not find a reason? 😕

It’s only a consequence of Brexit. Of course all UK territories will be out of the EU. And as for British territories that mainly survives by being tax havens also looses their status as a overseas territory!
8 out of 10 of the worst tax havens in existence are British territories!
It’s over, they are being put on the EU black list over Tax havens and the problems that brings with it.

A change in tradeoportunities /tradingbenefits is not a change in posession. I guess the Argentinians see to much in it.
And as for the Falklands beeing surprised, well I remeber a German TV report about Brexit in guess was 2018 (latest 2019) where they described the results of Brexit for overseas territorys from UK. So I wounder why it is a surprise to tham, cause a foringer knew about the risks and they themself diden't? Or well maybe they tought Westminster or former fischery representative from UK for fischerycomission Farage when still in EU, would care for tham and negotiate during the Freetradeagreement talks, and they got dissapointed by Westminster and Farage. But if they wanne blame EU - it just shows, that they dont understand Brexit. Eu cares for ist memberstates and its population, and with Brexit UK is outside.
