Jayson Tatum Has Become Underappreciated In The NBA

In this Video I will be sharing my thoughts after Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics reach the 2024 NBA Eastern Conference Finals (ECF) for the 3rd straight time and 5th time in the past 7 years. Through all of the Boston Celtics Winning, I feel Jayson Tatum has become undervalued and maybe even disrespected as the Boston Celtics lead option and Superstar despite all of the success he's had as one of the Youngest NBA Superstars! Hope You Enjoy!

Yup. Casuals just dont appreciate/understand:

1. advanced stats like PPP which he leads the playoffs in.

2. defense

3. "giving the game what it needs" like deferring to d.white when he was on a steph-beating historic heater for a 6-game stretch.

4. "Doing the little things that impact winning." Like leading the playoffs in screen assists at 1.6.

5. "sacrifice." Takes a step back from dominating offense because he realizes TEAM>individual star. Empowering your teammates to be threats means the opposing team doesnt know who to focus their defense on.

The casual fan is a fan of hero-ball. They like heliocentric stars they can identify with like superman. The celtics arent that. They are one of the last bastions of TEAM ball like the spurs teams of old. Everyone gets their time to shine like the Xmen.

I get a little sick of people putting expectations on Tatum that other greats didn’t reach until their late 20s/early 30s. It took the GOAT Jordan until what? 28, 29?

I do have a little bit of a rebuttal to the "he's always had stacked teams who carried him" argument. Jaylen Brown is the only teammate he's had that has been with him for all 5 of those ECF appearances. Smart was there for most of them but not this year because the Celtics blew it up a bit for Porzingis and Hoilday, and Horford wasn't there in 2020 and has taken a back seat this season. But you look back at it, 2018 was his rookie year and it was supposed to be about Kyrie and Hayward but injuries meant Tatum had to be the guy. Similar think in 2020 when Kemba was supposed to be the face of the team but got hurt, and that's when tatum really started to rise. 2021 and 2022 they brought in Derrick White and he became a great #3 guy for the Js. And this year we know what they did in the offseason. But you look back this Celtics roster has gone through several overalls. Hell, 2020 Daniel Thies and Kanter were some of the more important players. But for the most part, it's been Tatum and Brown as the face of it. They've been the 2 constants.

People to focus on individuals, its a team sport. I don't care if Brown or other team members score jus win the Championship... Go Boston Celtics

It’s really weird, they criticize him like he’s LeBron when he loses but won’t acknowledge him as a superstar when he’s balling (some media folks). They also want him to score 35 a night on 8/12 shooting . Even when the team wins by 25. 😂

Wow so refreshing to hear a sensible take on the Celtics . I don’t think all criticism of him is unfounded, I don’t think he’s lebron or MJ, but the way he is treated like a perennial bum/loser for not having a chip yet is wild to me. The Celtics are the favorites this year, they should win and will deserve criticism if they lose. But it’s revisionist to think that’s always been the case in Tatums career . The majority of his career the Celtics were considered one piece away and were never finals favorites until this and to a lesser degree last year. He’s largely overachieved and is the reason that despite team building disasters like Gordon Hayward, Irving, Kemba the Celtics continue to go deep in the playoffs. He wasn’t able to carry the team to a chip in his early twenties, but he got close and I think will continue to do so and very likely win at least one title.

FACTS!! Definitely under appreciated, they don’t see how much he’s actually sacrificing to win 🤷🏻‍♂️☘️ he does everything high level whatever we need he gives us #BleedGreen☘️

I really appreciated your perspective. I am a diehard Celtics fan, but do not think Tatum is the MVP. But like you said, that doesn’t mean you have to overlook what he’s done. He’s not in the highest tier of shot creators, but he sacrifices a lot, puts in real defense, rebounds at a high level, and has come to realize he isn’t the solution to every problem. I think it’s big of him to finally realize he isn’t Kobe. We should stop faulting him for finding his own path as an all-round, consistent guy.

Let’s be real if he was on any other team he would be liked. Tatum has always been elite
People love to use the injury card for this run but act like they didn’t go 64-18🤷

Had to look it up but it was nine in 10 years for Bronny. Khawi squeaked one in.
