I used to love this song so much, my sister was so confused why I liked a break up song so much but it would get randomly stuck in my head. I was a kid then, now I will be an adult in a few months and this song will still suddenly start playing in my head. My sister also loved this song btw, she's how I found out about it, but she didn't understand why I liked it so much as I hadn't ever had a breakup. That hasn't changed but here I am. I have a tendency of making characters and one of them is a mercenary who was turned into a vampire, I was going to say it was just her partner who turned her but then this song started playing in my head, so I decided to make it her boyfriend who was also her partner, which results in her avoiding humans and anything else except when she needs blood. I had already planned on that last part, though. But this did help me with her backstory, so thank you for writing and singing such a marvelous song.

When I was younger, I had this crush. His name was Jake. I'd known him since the third grade, and I liked him so much. I would give him friendly(ish) hugs because he was down about something, and I was a shoulder for him to cry on. There were these two other girls named Hazel and Elizabeth. They were best friends, but get this- They BOTH liked Jake. I am so not kidding you right now. My round of buses had been called out to the front of school at the end of the day sometime in January, and I walked down there with my friend Raven. I had written a note to Jake. I was planning on giving it to him when I saw him walk down. I stood right next to the staircase the entire time, waiting for him to come down. When he did eventually come down, he was alone, so it was pretty easy to give him this casual (or so I thought) hug and slip the note into his hand. His eyes kind of got big when I hugged him, and he stumbled backwards, but he hugged me back (+1!). So, I slipped the piece of paper into his hand and quickly ran off (I almost missed the bus).
So, the next day was surprisingly not awkward. We talked like we usually did, cracking jokes in the cafeteria and writing notes to each other and passing them to the other in the hallways. So, it was exactly the same. Up until the same time when I gave him the note (mind you, exactly 24 hours after I gave him the note). I gave him his hug, as usual (His dad was deployed the whole time this was happening), but he kind of flinched and rubbed his neck afterwards. He handed me a clean piece of paper with his recognizable boy handwriting on it. He walked out the door, as I head in the other direction towards the buses. There were only 4 words on it, I like you too <3. I remember laughing the entire way to the bus and my face being red. I remember not being able to stop smiling. I remember falling on my bed and hugging my pillow.
Did our relationship last? Hell yes. Just an hour ago, he reminded me that he loved me! So, the point is, things can end happy. You never know until you try. What if I had just kept my feelings to myself? I might not of had the pleasure of kissing his cheek on Valentine's Day! If you're wondering what happened with Hazel and Elizabeth, Hazel now has a boyfriend that's two years older than herself (But only a grade above her) and Elizabeth is happy being single. Hazel is one of my close friends. So, if you're thinking about asking someone out, you totally should. It doesn't matter how it ends. If he rejects you, he's so not good enough for you! There's always more fish in the sea and he was just a leach <3 - Your friendly internet story-teller
