As a very gay Christian, I’m sorry. I genuinely don't understand the people, like my dad, who think that "oH aCtInG oN tHe GaY iS a ChOiCe" like if I like women I’m gonna act on it. Also, if all people are created in God's image, that includes the gays. Also, some churches I went to preached that being gay is a sin and a choice, so :/. Most of the verses come from a lack of historical context and mistranslation.

Yes, p*rn addiction CAN be a very real addiction.

But when conservative Christians talk about "p*rn addiction" they are not talking about an addiction, they are talking about the "sin" of watching p*rn, and if you feel "temptation" to watch it, and "give in" to that tempation for any reason whatsoever, you're "addicted".

They've learned that secular people don't respond to terms like "sin" and "temptation" so words like "addiction" are used instead to hook people. Also "God cured my addiction" testimonies preach really well.

Using the term "addiction" the way they do is just fearmongering. It's why if you mentioned sex addiction they would look confused if you're married, because then sex is "good" - unless that sex addiction involved something they consider sexual immorality, like adultery or p*rn or gay sex.

It's just another word for "sexual sin" in Christianese - yet another co-opting by Christianity of real world terms. You got to look out for that manipulation and the game of semantics - it's a major part of apologetics, changing the meanings of words and then changing them back when you're not looking so their argument wins. It's just goalpost shifting and special pleading.

Funny story from a trans guy: In my late teens I was a super devout Christian and heard a program on Christian radio about "Gender Identity Disorder" (back when it existed as a diagnosis). The host gave all the usual misinformation about being trans and its origins, but when he read out the criteria for GID I realized I met every single one of them. Despite that, in my twisted Christian denialism I thought "Well, good thing I'm a Christian so I have a definitive source of truth. I *know* I'm not a guy, because I know it's impossible for me to change my sex, even if I wanted to. No matter how much I want to... no matter how desperately I want to... no matter how much I used to cry myself to sleep at night praying for God to turn me into a boy... it's just not happening. Crazy how people can be so deceived without a definitive source of truth and God's spirit to guard their minds..."

I literally told all of this to my Christian therapist at the time, who - probably because he was Christian - didn't pursue the topic any further. Years later, after becoming a full time missionary, learning the truth about the Bible and Christianity (that it's entirely man-made), and leaving religion altogether, I learned more about trans people, the difference between sex and gender identity, and the science that backs all this up. Religion didn't "save" me from being trans. It kept me in denial for years. I'm much happier now that I'm free to be myself - although I desperately wish I'd realized all of this when I was younger, back before developing health issues that prevent me from medically transitioning. Religion stole that from me.

Tl;dr: Religion can't "de-trans" or "de-gay" someone, no matter how devout they are. All it does is place/keep them in denial (or at best, in the case of homosexuality, allow them to admit who they are but force them to forgo the type of fulfilling romantic relationship their heterosexual peers are granted). It's messed up.
