A few years ago we lost the split tailgate in the disco 5. This year, we lost it from the land cruiser 300. Rest in peace split tailgate, your efforts to make things more convenient to those who appreciate a nice bench will never be forgotten. Thank you for all the years. (Yes toyota and land rover, how dare you)

This is the earliest I have ever been to a CarExpert video. Love the LC 300

It's great to see that, 99% of the Australian car reviews are as unbiased as it can be. Unlike US, where many of the reviewers doesn’t speak a single bad thing about any given vehicle. That's why I watch these reviews rather than those.

This new 300 series has just increased the value of my 200 series, thank you 🙏

After deciding to upgrade my trusty ageing Touareg that has served my family faithfully over 12 years, I began researching and test-driving suitable replacements since the start of the year.

After a few months of anticipation, I was finally able to take the 300 VX for a test drive a few weeks ago. I was impressed with the power, drive quality and, surprisingly, the appealing sound of the V6 engine. It certainly seemed to drive much better than the outgoing 200 series Sahara that I test drove a few weeks earlier.

I was seriously tempted to lay my $2, 500 deposit down there and then to secure my car for delivery some unknown time in the future… but there were some niggles that got me to reconsider. The niggles included:
1. The rather cluttered, busy array of buttons and ‘stuff’ on the dashboard
2. The cramped third row seats that are cumbersome to operate
3. The synthetic rather than real leather, despite the salesman trying to convince me it was real leather (I accept synthetic is better for the environment but hey, you can’t beat the smell and feel of real leather!)
4. The absence of the split tailgate, which I thought was a nice touch in the 200 series
5. No electric tailgate
6. No memory seating

Individually these niggles aren’t that bad but when you add them up, along with the fact you can’t customise to add 1-2 bits, it proved for me to be a deal-breaker. I thought that shelling out $125k (inc ORC) for a car would’ve included at least an electric tailgate, but I was wrong.

It was a shame that Toyota didn’t include some simple features such as electric tailgate or memory seating on the pricey VX model that seems to be standard for most other (and much cheaper) vehicles. What’s worse is that you have to pay $18k more to get them in the next level Sahara, as they aren’t even offered as an option.

The day after I took the VX for a test drive, I took a slightly used Range Rover Vogue for a run, and boy what a difference a day makes! I’m now a proud new owner of a totally different class of vehicle that has all the features I was looking for and more… but that’s another story.

The fact they removed the split folding tailgate is criminal.

My Sahara is parked in my garage for almost two weeks still learning new features. If you want to compare VX with Sahara, here are the features Sahara have VX don’t have: Power-folding 3rd row, heated and ventilated 2nd row outer seats, driver’s seat memory 3 memory settings, sequential turn signals (front and rear), chrome accented exterior door mirrors and door handles, power back door, leather accented seats, heated steering wheel, rear footwell illuminated entry lighting, cool box, driver and passenger seat back pockets hard backed, 14-speaker JBL premium audio, head-Up display and dual rear seat entertainment with (headphones not included). To be honesty the new Landcruiser is better than the older one: more power, more torque, it is quicker, beautiful design, technology and safety. Thank you, Paul. You have done excellent job on VX.

Excellent review mate, so well worth watching this. Go for the high-end spec model, I'd love to see what that does. Great work Paul, keep up the fantastic work. Dann

A high mileage 200 series Aussie spec vx v8 is going for $470, 000 aud in srilanka due to our insane taxes and current import ban. I cant imagine how much the new 300 would be when it eventually comes here. You guys are really lucky to being paying the prices Toyota is asking for the new vehicle!

I remember the previous model's crawl control, it was very noisy and felt like you're breaking the vehicle, but this is absolutely silent, great work by Toyota.

Watching this vid, I can perfectly relate to the sense of satisfaction, intellectual accomplishment, and hormonal fullness of Patrol owners.

Dealers have been told they must hold onto the demonstrators for a minimum of 6 months. Supply is around 5, 000 per month with none allocated for our domestic market and pre orders are at 20, 000 plus (which have been canceled).

Great review Paul 👍🏾. The car seems most improved on the inside, and under the bonnet. Still, it will do the Toyota thing very well, great reliability and simple to use. 🇰🇪
