Guitar God GARY LUCAS (Jeff Buckley, Captain Beefheart) has released over 50 acclaimed albums as a leader or co-leader to date, and toured in over 40 countries worldwide, since cutting his teeth as a featured soloist and member of Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band. Gary may be best known for co-writing and playing on the first two songs on Jeff Buckley’s “Grace” album (Jeff thanked him in the liner notes for “magical guitarness”)—but those who have heard him live in whatever context he is playing in over the last 44 years are still raving about it. In 1989 he formed his longtime band GODS AND MONSTERS featuring a revolving cast of stellar players orbiting around Lucas’s incendiary guitar playing on both electric and acoustic. This show is the debut of his latest band lineup, now a psychedelic power trio featuring the rock-steady propulsive bass of Ernie Brooks and the exploding nebula of drummer extraordinaire Calvin Weston. Prepared to have your mind blown.

Resonate the heavily infused bop music n poetry molecule complicity with lend me your ear boplicity; with finger snapping madness, I am in a space shared, a howl absurd, with a romantic assemblage of what is hip, and I hear jazz speak!

Arise relaxed tempos and lighter tones to a totally higher consciousness…. There’s this powerful spiritual flashback of lyrical flowers - a good prayer without words, where th’ rhythm first whispers then screams, growing ever fatter; an invocation from a red hot panoply that stuns the senses.

I tilt into madness. Your truth couples with a nimbleness, a dash of a braggart’s swagger, and an edge - something that lets me experience an intensity of full attention as the musical color palette from cool cats who’re hitting on all strings and percussion while stretching out, percolating timelessness, all with their musician’s savvy…I cross a threshold into Wowsville!

With that straight ahead coolness, my thumbs-up reaction shows multiple stars flying out the tips; I’m smiling, from perceived affinities between sound and body motion as this ear massage gives me an opportunity t'hear all the colors you’d feel. And a laid-back sultry, dreamy lower/upper register… a deliciousness of now, invites ease, where a jump-in positivity transcends – What a flamboyant twirl!

Th’ players are all in a pleasing, tight groove, a great sound cresting into jammin’ hard driving improv, which shapes th’ musical poetic on intertwined waves of highest fidelity, simultaneously lighting up th’ purest candle – allowing me t’see that heavenly ladders rung. Thank you.
