How To: Repair E53 X5 Instrument Cluster LCD (Dead Pixels FIXED!)

Показать описание
Today, we're replacing the LCD on my E53 X5 instrument cluster to remedy the oh-so-common dead pixel issue. If you're like me, you'll find it super annoying not being able to read the display with your consumption and range of gas etc, so this had to be the first repair we did on the X5. It also happens to be a simple weekend project that you can also do at home too!

Currently working on tearing this down - for anyone wondering: The screws that hold the box with the screen itself to the board are T8 (Torx)

I wish I could do this but I need to fix the steering first to get the cluster out. It's completely stuck and I'm not smart enough to figure out the electricals. I also dont trust myself drilling into the cluster 😂 Awesome video though

I used what looks to be exactly the same display, except mine came from Aliexpress. Every pixel works but it's dimmer than the OE display, wich yours also appears to be, it looks like they put on a darker film on top of the display. Doesnt bother me much though, you can still see it.

Good job. I have 2001 E53 X5 3.0i with 230K miles. There are some missing dots in radio display panel. Unfortunately they are located in Clock display area. hopefully someone comes up low cost fix solution.

I really wish you wouldn't have time lapsed over the reassembly part after sticking the display cable.
