Streaming services were once seen as affordable alternative to cable until the price of having all of them to watch the exclusive shows you want started to become a hefty price to pay. That's why media piracy will always remain a viable option. (Social media may or may not be included)

So it turns out most of piracy was an availability and comfort problem. Good thing we solved that with a streaming service that's both wide and affordable, so you don't have to worry about piracy anymore Disney. Wait, you did what?

If the market spreads too wide, people will look for alternatives
When it was just a handful of streaming services, you had enough of a worth to cost ratio to pay for it instead of piracy
How did the big corporations not see it coming? Because "everyone does it, so let's do it too", even if it doesn't work out for common sense reasons

Don't forget that they aren't even selling the shows or movies on their own anymore, and even stuff you bought digitally is literally getting taken from you.

We Americans have been brainwased into thinking media piracy is some horrible evil. It doesn't really hurt creators. They make their money off of merch and the like. Media is also not a "good" like those stolen in traditional piracy. Pirating media does not cause a shortage or crazy prices. Especially with how digital everything is now, most media is literally just a copy of a file. It doesn't technically even "exist, " at least tangibly.

Piracy gains traction when "legitimate" markets become too expensive and/or inconvenient for the average customer. That's why the Golden Age of Music Piracy died once iTunes launched

I am convinced its all a loop, something will be overpriced, pirates will do there thing, which will lead to someone making something cheap and affordable that replaces the original thing and gets people to stop pirating... until it too becomes too expensive and we all got back to the seven seas for a bit

Somewhere an MBA's spreadsheet said that they could 'extract more value' from the market by spinning off their one or two successful properties in to its own streaming service, and while the model made sense it of course ignored that very few people are willing to have two let alone eight streaming services.
