The sheriff feared for his life, the judge made a sudden move, the judge didn't comply immediately, the gavel was a potentially lethal weapon, etc. The sheriff has plenty of cop propaganda to use to get off and get back to work...

This is one county over from me and from what I’m hearing the judge was sleeping with the Sherriff’s 17 year old daughter and he found out about it and went and confronted the judge and well you know what happened.
