Such an intense video for a mic. Hans Zimmer would be proud

Amazing comparison video and glad you have and processed sound, you rock dude!

The Sm7b definitely can pick up in lower frequencies a lot better. Unprocessed the Sm7b picked up on the S and T that would definitely need more de-essing. Hard to justify spending an extra $300 on the sm7b imo

Thank you for posting! for my needs right now I'm going to go with the sm58 with a pop filter

Sm58 I’d say. I can’t hear much difference between the two so I’m just going on price and durability

the same. i have the two mics. an older 58 and a new 7b... is the same... if you talk with more proximity in the 58... sounds the same... you can compensate some differences with eq, or match the mics using noise and a eq to match... sounds THE SAME.... dont waste your money!

What processing did you use? Both mics sound great. Of course the Sm7 B sounds better but for the money and with the right processing, the 58 is more than good enough for me.

The 7b is a little clearer, but I bet with a wind screen the 58 would be pretty close. I agree with most everybody here, there is not a $300 difference.

IMO you need a pop shield for an SM58 for close vocal work. It's the mic I use, simply because I acquired a couple for free and while I'd like a better mic the SM58 does the job for now 🎤🎤🎤

Great vídeo. thanks.
With a cloud lifter on both, plus a windshield on the sm58, and no one would ever know..only perhaps side by side like you did here. Remember, after recorded, processed they work just as good. I own both, but I choose to use a 58 or 57 on my video podcast, cloudlifter, and windshields (the bigger one on the 57) they work just fine.
The sm7b is wonderful sounding and looks really cool, but I bought it mainly for singing voice. Maybe If I reeeeally need to record an advertising voice, yeah, maybe..but then again I'll probably use a condenser for that.

SM7B sounds a bit crisper, something to do with the high frequency response I guess... but on the other hand, no matter how many miles you happen to be away from the mic it also results in that "annoying crispy crunchy recorded voice" sound I'm not a huge fan of. Even worse, really close to the mic I almost hear "rattling" from some mechanical effect I'm not pro enough to understand. I'll stick with my SM58, stick within a reasonable radius of the thing, and just EQ it a bit.

Do you have a video on how you process the sound?

I’m am getting ready to start some voice over work for some video work and I have the SM58 already. I’m thinking that it is probably just fine vs purchasing an additional SM7B? Why would someone want a SM7B for $400 and need cleaner preamps or noise gate/booster combination vs a $99 SM58 that can get away with less? I was thinking of getting a MOTU M4 for $229 for clean preamps or even the old Audient id14. Both should be significantly better than a standard issue $100-150 Focusrite with their laughable metering system (lack of). Did you need to add any noise gait or lifter to the SM7B?

Sm7B is a clear Winner.
Much smoother sound.
58 has a boost in upper range that makes it a bad studio mic.

With the comparison you show there seems to be only a slight difference. While other comparison videos show a noticeable difference. Why do you think that is?

The SM7B sounds slightly better and more open than the SM58. However, the difference is negligible, and not 300 bucks worth, though you will want to add a wind guard because the plosives on the 58 are rough. Heck you can get a used SM58 for like 50-70 bucks and given how rock solid they are, you won't have to worry. It really comes down to aesthetics—the SM7B looks better. But if you're doing a podcast, who cares?

Tell me please, which model of the stand did you use for the SM7B?

Sm58, sure the sm7b is better but it's like eating a ice cream vs eating a ice cream with sprinkles. I don't need extra.
