I live in the mountains in the scottish highlands. The place is swarming with deer .
One funny story- I was sitting in the middle of a forest, half way into a mountain. This little deer was separated from the " posse" of deer on the other side of the forestry fence.
Usaully deer spot you a mile away but I was sitting there wearing bright blue about 10 metres away . While this little deer spent 30 minutes walking up and down the fence line . Looking for an opening that wasn't there . He wouldn't commit to going a longer way around - going for 30 plus metres to the left and then 30 plus metres to the right, back and forth in a panic . The way around was about 100 metres but it brought you on the other side of a Loch.
Ihe never noticed me once, as he was to consumed by his plight, even though he past me about 30 times .
I had a sore bum from sitting so had to get up and scare him into a decision = the other side of the Loch way . The other way was 1-2 miles of fence .
I actaully don't like scaring them into decisions- the reason being : another time I was walking down a forest and a boy and girl were " Doing" deer business . They seen me but once I became a threat in their minds . They split into 2 different directions out of fear .
I've always wondered how they find each other again = obviously by smell but out here you can travel 10 miles in the wrong direction very easily . Especially if you are running out of fear like a deer . And since the deer only have certain crossing points ( fences ) . They must be able to jump very high ( old fences ) but the new 7ft forestry fences they couldn't jump as they go on for miles and miles .

I see deer everyday usaully - I surprised a big boy one time . He was huge and would have trampled me to death . But he was more surprised than I was ( very remote in the Highlands) . The highland cows are pretty funny - I surprised a girl one time chewing on a hedge in a hedge . She jumped out 1 metre from me and walked and ran infront of me for a mile . She was constantly looking back to determine the threat level ( she was 1 ton of beef with giant horns = she could have taken me )
I felt like a stalker the way she was behaviouring

If you come to Australia, there are herds of Deer walking through the centre of Brisbane. In my whole 18 months of sleeping in the German forest, i only saw a Deer once.
I asked the tourist centre girl (23) "Have you ever seen a Wolf?"
And she said "No never."
I thought, "I am pretty save then".

My dad feeds his deer twice a day during cold winter months, clangs the kettle and they run out of the woods, so funny. Come spring they disappear and only come around ocasionally.
