Some of these finds in these mashes and swamps are absolutely stunning! To be almost perfectly persevered for 85 years+ in wetness! But I guess having a neutral PH or something and lacking of Oxygen being encapsulate in solid sludge and mud, it somehow prevents iron from oxidized from starting. But it goes for aluminum and brass too when you would think that the brass shell cases would be solid or liquid green goo by now in any other place even under ground, brass tarnishes. Some of these places thought you are seeing brass and aluminum without even a layer of tarnish on the surface of the metals! To see something like A tank or helmet coming out of the water or ground with the paint still in tack and almost perfectly persevered is to me mind blowing! 🤯

The PzIV found at the battle of kursk would have been painted tan as a base color--Germany was no longer painting their tanks grey by 1943. Most likely, this didn't come from North Africa as the Afrika Korp was pretty much stranded in Tunisia and I doubt very many weapons made their way to central russia.

"SEMPERIT". Having worked for decades with industrial applications that use Semperit tyres, rubber dampers, reinforced hoses etc. it's a really funny feeling to see the exact same embossed text on the side of a Pz-IV rubber roadwheel as I saw... Maybe yesterday?

Thank god not scrapped. The Problem with every ww2 wreck...it contains metal from before the first nuclear bombs which is high value Steel for new tech in the med sector.

I read a few days ago some scrappers even stolen steel from japanese and british ship wrecks in asia. Same as dutch De Ryther wreck. Shame

Little correction, from 1943 germans started using dunkelgelb "sand color" as a standard base camouflage colour, so no it wasn't transported from Africa in the hurry

The color yellow isn't an evidence, that it was used in the "Afrika Corps". Nearly all vehicles / tanks from 1943 onwards got the color "Dunkelgelb" (dark yellow) - as base color. Some units just left it like this. Others added further colors like the standard "Olivgrün" (drab green) or "Schokoladenbraun" (chocolate brown).
