🐤 ’Happy Family’ 🐤
of the Masked Lapwing kind!
Hi Folks.
This is the 127th entry in my Nature Diary.
It’s been quite a while since uploaded a Diary entry so yes, I’m still here!
So although, along with everyone else, there have recently been things going on that have to be dealt with, I have never stopped observing and recording the Natural world around me that catches my eye.
Although the Masked Lapwing is quite a common bird in the north and east of Australia, what caught my attention on this occasion was where they decided to lay their eggs. Not in the middle of the roundabout near the tree but right on the edge!
Another thing that caught my eye was how so beautifully camouflaged the chicks are. We couldn't appreciate that by viewing them from the side. But as you can see, although underneath they are pure white, their backs and top of their heads completely matches the terrain they are walking on. Any bird of prey flying over head wouldn't see them.
They have a very distinctive alarm call which can be heard at opening and ending titles.
Shortly after the chicks hatched, maybe a day or so, the whole family disappeared.
Hope they all made it ok.
Hope you joy watching this 'Happy Family' as much as I did recording it.
I have now a back log of videos to upload so I’d better ‘pull my finger out’! 🙂
Until next time Folks, take care.
