Crazy to even think about this. Kris Bryant just seems like such a Cub.

I don’t understand the logic of developing your prospect into an MVP level talent and then trading him before his prime. This man should be a lifelong cubbie for what he’s done for the organization.

Good video. I was thinking earlier that the Braves would be a good fit for Contreras, but now that they have d'Arnaud for 2 years it looks like they are committed to Langeliers and the other Contreras for the future. I see the best fit as possibly the Angels, but they'd need to get pretty creative to get a deal done. Either way, good video, can't wait for your next one.

I never really thought about how much sense that Contreras trade makes lol I always thought of the cubs as stuck with there pieces and hoping to contend with them until they pass in free agency

Thanks for The Athletic discount! The Cubs absolutely should trade Contreras. Not only can Caratini step right in, but Amaya is developing in the wings. Extend Baez first. I love Willy, but we have too many free swingers.

As a Yankee fan, I would open the prospect vault considerably for Anthony Rizzo. Let's go down the list: 1. First base for the Yankees has been a black hole of suck every since Mark Teixeira retired. Actually, ever since Teixeira injured his arm prepping for the World Baseball Classic. This has only been abbreviated by the last September of Teixeira's career and a crucial Game 3 home run off of Andrew Miller in an ALDS (Greg Bird, whose bones seems to be as hollow and as breakable as an actual bird's) and a 2018 play-off push (Luke Voit). Rizzo is mostly healthy, having appeared in no fewer then 146 games since 2014. 2. Rizzo would provide a desperately needed left handed bat in the Yankee line-up. With Didi Gregorius maybe (definitely?) on his way out, that would appear to leave Brett Gardner (a free agent himself) and/or Mike Tauchman as the only left handed bat in the Yankee line-up. Aaron Hicks, a switch-hitter, has undergone Tommy John surgery and will be out a few months to start the 2020 season. 3. Unlike a lot of the other Yankee sluggers, Rizzo does not strike out. Despite topping 500 ABs every season, Rizzo's Ks haven't totaled 100 since 2016 (and even then, 2016 and 2015 were just barely over 100, 105 and 108 respectively). This would put a guy who can put the bat on the ball between (hopefully) Judge and Stanton consistently. Rizzo is 30 so I would want to give up either of the Yankees' tip top 2 prospects but I would listen further down the list and Clint Frazier and Miguel Andujar would be in play, as far as I'm concerned. Either would give the Cubs a serious bat that they could plug into the line-up immediately and they would keep and control beyond that 2021 deadline you talked about.

The one thing that might protect the Cubs with the service time manipulation is Mike Olt. It's obvious that the Cubs wanted Bryant that extra year, but they were also more than willing to start the season with Olt starting at third. He just so happened to get hurt after the deadline the Cubs wanted get past to call Bryant up. Realistically, I can see MLB siding with the Cubs on that one, but will be the biggest rallying cry to get the rules changed during the next contract.

As for is Bryant or Willson should be traded, if the right offer comes along, you have to move them. I'm not sure which teams would be in the market for either of them, or who should be prospects to target for a trade to get them.

As a side note, if the Cubs can bolster the rotation and bullpen, they can easily compete for the Division with the offense they have, so long as they can be more consistent. It's the other teams they would face in the postseason I'd be more worried about, compared to the Cardinals and Brewers.

The cubs should have traded KB last year when he ignored their $200 million extension. That alone is proof enough he’s not going to sign with them again when he’s a free agent.

Gonna be hard to take on both Bryant's and Beaz"s contracts. If I had to choose, I'm sticking with Javy. More explosive, fun, swagger. Cubs need sparks.

Cubs should most definitely trade Bryant because he’s leaving for free agent end of year trade him now to get good prospects and he’s pissed that the cubs put him in triple a so he’s not a free agent now so trade him

Moving Schwarber  coming off a good year makes more sense. All the others mentioned are plus hitters and fielders and being strong up the middle still matters and Contreras still has a breakout year in him, I like Carantini but as the 1B/C backup If Russell comes back strong you have more options defensively as well.

I am a big cubs fan and I love both players but i think Wilson Contreras will make good trades and money and Bryant has a whole career ahead of him. GoCubs

i agree. contreras makes the most sense for many reasons. sucks tho, cuz i really like him.

I would hate to see KB get traded, and I don't see Theo giving him away without valuable return prospects. Given Rendon FA, I expect to see KB in a uniform next year. Contreras and Scwarber are more likely trades to me. I understand why they would make those decisions, but love all my Cubbies and don't want to lose any of them!

No. Don’t trade Contreras. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD

Things need to change, pitching depth is important. One man doesnt make a team. Love you, KB, but if an opportunity arises that could bolster the farm when this team obviously cant get it together, then so be it...Pitching...need the pitching.

Tbh Wilson would be the best trade and since they aren’t extending rizzo it frees up more money
