Now I’m just imagining her sitting in front of her computer bouncing all over the place and making really exaggerated facial expressions, all while trying to make her voice sound as natural as possible lol

You have to learn to BE your model. Act as if your model is your mirror. You are the one making the model move so...do it with enthusiasm! Have a great day everyone!

Big facts. The streamer makes the model, not the other way around.

Also, mad respect to Vtubers like Lily. Must take some _real_ stamina to be overly expressive for hours on end to make the most out of their models while providing content for their viewers.

One of the humblest persons i know, she deserves all the love

the thing is so many gamers (who are streamers) have years of experience sitting there only using their voice. So the physical emoting while doing the thing isn't there it's unlearning a habit for some people and learning a habit for others.

VTubers are literally the Voice Actors of streaming. Lily literally just explained how voice acting works. You can't just go into voice acting or VTubing and be boring. Just because a camera isn't on you doesn't mean you can phone it in.

I think I remember 2win talking about this on one of her streams. That Lily took her time to learn and master how to move the model, toggles and all, and it really shows

Whenever I'm explaining to people what VTubing is, I always say that they're puppeteering a virtual character, and this clip really shows why I like using this word.
To get the most out of a puppet or avatar, sometimes you have to act things out a little differently than you would with your own body, and making bigger exaggerated motions and expressions is rarely a bad thing.
Understanding your model or puppet and how to make them come alive is worth more than a fancier model/puppet. It's how the muppeteers make even fairly simple puppets like Kermit the Frog really come alive. Mad respect for Lily for understanding this.

kinda funny to imagine lily bouncing up and down like her model in real life. It fits with her violent table slapping habits XD

Absolutely true. And Lily puts in emotion in the face and body movements. The adorableness and rigging of model is an addition

This clip really means a lot to me, I just got a text from a client of mine, saying something along the lines of telling me to re-rig the model and make it more "life-like".
They gave me references to models that cost thousands of dollars, while mine cost less than $500 for a full model.
It really hit me hard, thinking that it was my rigging skill's fault, but seeing this clip really cheered me up.
I'm planning to make a comparison video later of me using the model when I am not expressive compared to when I use it full of expressions in real life.
I've tried it already personally with my own model and yes, in real life facial expressions really effect the end result in the vtuber model looking more "life-like"

1: Your model is pretty awesome. It's very well made. Huge prop to the artist that made it.
2: From what you are explaining, it sounds a lot like puppeteering. As someone who lives in a city with an international puppeteering festival, the performers at the show doing the work is as important as the puppet makers work. It's using your tools to the fullest to bring it all out. It's surprising how much emotion you can bring to lifeless things if you're good at using your tools. You clearly are.
3: Womp womp.

Sometimes a model does in fact have crappy tracking or even a very limited set of expressions. Look at Irys' original model before her new one, that one was really not animated well. But her new model has amazing tracking and expressions. It was actually the same guy for both models, he just improved A LOT since his first attempt.

I am supremely grateful she clarified this. And the fact she said her cheeks hurt early on explained so much in one statement that I can't even express how much I'm happy to hear this. It just proves even further that Lily is special in that her expressions are her own, and that she is stage-acting for the rig with larger motions. I didn't think I could be more impressed with her than I already am, and I was wrong in the best way.

As somebody who does the streaming, the rigging, and modelling, all herself (3d btw), it really is just this. You can change sensitivities and all that stuff, you can have the coolest model ever, but if you just do a deadpan stare while your streaming (I am guilty of this too, its a hard habit to break, especially when your sitting at around 5-10 viewers with nobody talking for sometimes hours on end), it really does not use the model to its full potential.

I like this! It really puts into perspective how much a vtuber model is a puppet, you don’t just paste it over yourself, you have to learn how to move it and use it! It reminds me of how Mysta Rias talked about how he trained himself to have a small smile while streaming so his model doesn’t have RBF. It also explains how we can tell who is who when vtubers swap models, they have their own facial characteristics and body language and demeanor that they have regardless of the model they’re using, cuz it’s still a person behind all the art. Vtubing is so cool in that regard and has a lot more to do with personality then people give it credit for!

Out of sheer curiosity, Id love to see Lily use another model that someone says isnt rigged well and see how much she can pull out of it. Not to discredit the other vtuber or anything like that. Just to see Lily work her magic on a model that people see as static.

Id also love to see IRL Lily boucing around in her chair to go all out for her model. Just picturing that in my head seems ridiculously cute

shylily, girl dm, mouse and shoto are probably my favorite vtubers that know how to use their model to their full potential. along with their talents and personality, i feel the model expression utilization is also very important towards a vtubers success

Thank God someone big said this
You can't just rely on the art, you gotta know how to use it

So I'm guessing this is why she always jumps up a little in her chair when she starts laughing. I've noticed it since day 1, Lily's the only VTuber that does that and it makes her funnies look more authentic than they may sound.
