Nobody with ties/family in China should have any political power here in Canada. Whether they are well-intentioned or not, it is a fact that the Chinese Gov can and will torture/erase their family back in China if they don't comply with the wishes of the Chinese Gov. What choice would they have but to bend to them?

Joly said '..to bring them back home...' as opposed to 'release'.

Oh man, without one fact, without any evidence it is pathetic that people hope this man is guilty and that his life is ruined. Those comments don't reflect Canadian attitudes and values. I prefer to wait for verified facts, evidence and the truth, none of which we have so far.
