During the audition for Romeo and Juliet, Franco Zeffirelli said that Michael York stopped by, and he happened to see Olivia doing the scene from the tomb, (which was the second scene she did, as she was not a big fan of the balcony scene, so Franco told her to come back and do the other scene) after Olivia was done, the whole set was silent, and Michael York went over to the Zeffirelli and said "Its her! You must cast her, she's perfect!"
According to Zeffirelli, the praise was not required as he was also positive that Olivia was perfect and the search was over.

I loved this movie. This part was so intense...but the whole idea of such a place, in this ever-growing-darker world, is such a dream. Loved the ending as well. Actually bought the DVD after having watched a few clips from it. Didn't watch the ending until I actually watched the movie, though.

I watched this movie on a Reel in the early 80s. I was about 12 then and this is one such movie that fascinated me as a child who loved to read books filled with mysteries. The part where Maria turned to an old woman never left my mind. It stuck with me and so did the name of the movie. Decades late, now that we have the internet, it is a bit more easier, as I searched for the Lost Horizon. I love this movie and its setting and the storyline of Shangri La, its youthfulness and the part that Maria changed into an old woman was unforgettable.
