I remember this from when I was just a little girl and my Dad would listen to this. Takes me way way back. I'm 60 now, Dad's gone, but still listening . Love it.

RIP Ssgt. John Boyd - Vietnam '69; '71. Miss you old buddy and hope that you FINALLY found peace ... It was so sad to see you desperately trying to stop the pain until the heroin finally killed you ... If only your PTSD was treated earlier!

“If I could move I’d get my gun and put her in the ground”. Wow, don’t let the light & friendly choo choo train melody fool you. This song has teeth.

With all his later “hammers” as he referred to them, this song and Glen Campbell’s Galveston are still the most underrated protest songs ever sang. Mr. Rogers. A figure on the Mt Rushmore of great singer performers. RIP

Is absolutely the best version of this song that there is. Well beyond its time and forever encapsulated in our minds

Gives me chills. I love this song today just as much as I did as a child when I heard this playing on the record player at my grandmother's house.

I used to dance the quick step to this with my wonderful Dad. He passed away in 1999 after a fourteen and a half year battle with cancer, age 65 😪😪😪😪💕💕💕💕

I was almost 14 when this song came out. I cried every time I heard it on the radio. Still love it. Just found out today that it was written by Mel Tillis.

Such a deep and sentimental song. I'm not from anywhere near the US and I felt that song. RIP Kenny. You were a genius!!!

This was before I was born but I can't get enough of this song! This video is my favorite version he's done. His voice!! The head tilts backwards and sideways in between verses! OMG!

I was a girl when this song came out. Lots of relatives and friends family members that were in that war. I remember how sad this song made me because even as a young girl, I understood it. Still makes me cry.

Such a dark song with a loving sounding melody. Totally an emotional shitstorm in an artistically incredible way
