Thanks Tim, those church buildings and cathedral look lovely.
Fifty odd years ago my aunt and uncle worked for the big TC Harrison garage, they had hundreds of brand new cars parked up outside waiting to be sold on. He used to drive the cars up n down the country to their next area where they were sold.
Brought back a few memories. 😊x

nottingham station might be in older more venerable buildings, but it is also not a big station. About the same size.

Derby is a lovely city. I've been to both the Baseball Ground & Pride Park & to the Cricket ground. Nottingham next

Derby is the result of appalling planning decisions made by the council over the last 30-40 years. The car park built by the Council at great cost, and at the cost of pulling down the Ice Factory, then they can't run it properly so they close it down. The bus station was originally a classic art deco building which took up the space of the current bus station, part of the road and half of the court building, and was at least twice as large as it is now. Derbion is a total farce having been built at least twenty years after every other city, and destroying the rest of the town, aimed mainly at young people. The council think that the only people with money are young students, so they have geared the town towards them, forcing the closure of the Victorian Market Hall, which is to be refurbished and filled with coffee stalls, kicking out all the long standing traders. They did the same with the indoor market which they built in the 70's, pulling own cock pit hill in the process. The first part of the inner ring road was completed in the late 60's and they only finished the rest in the last ten years.

The hotel you showed at the beginning is only for holidaymakers from Sudan, Iraq, Albania, China...

Like the clashing of two different and opposed realities.

In the grand scheme of things Derby is a pretty good place to live and work, I agree that it could always be improved but compared to a lot of cities and large towns it’s ok .

Actually, Derby Station has 7 platforms but only 6 are used for passenger trains.

Proves that the death of the high street also isnt just a northern problem. Derby has some lovely buildings but sadly a lot of them are sitting empty and boarded up. And theres really not a whole lot to do there even though its a city. I think Derby is in a worse state than anywhere else in Derbyshire despite it being the county town. Nottingham is a much nicer city as well.

Don’t think I’ll be rushing to visit. It seems to have the usual shops and businesses you see in most towns and cities.
A few nice old buildings scattered about though.

Assembly Rooms was Derby's main venue for gigs. Think there was a fire years ago, and it's been like you saw it ever since!

Too many laundering shops

But plenty of retail and quite a lot of independent shops

Certainly more shops than Sheffield city centre

I heard someone describe Sheffield as a post retail city centre
