Hiking 100 Famous Mountains 🇯🇵-Mt. Houo #hiking #japan

Intro:

Mount Houo (2,840m) or Phoenix Mountain, is a scenic ridge of three white granite peaks named after 3 Buddhist deities. There’s Mt. Yakushi ( God of healing ), Mt. Kannon ( Goddess of Mercy, and Mt. Jizo ( protectors of travelers and children ).

The mountain is located in the northeastern part of Minami Alps ( Southern Alps Japan ). From Mount Houo you’ll be able to see the Shiranesanzan ( Mount Kita, Mount Aino and Mount Notori ).

If the weather is clear, you’ll be able to enjoy unobstructed views of Mount Fuji and other Mountains in the Minami Alps

Hike:

It has a 2,400m elevation

5 hours and 30 minutes from Gozaishi Onsen ( trailhead )

8 hours and 55 minutes from Yashajin gate ( trailhead )

Day 1: This hike starts at Gozaishi Onsen and ends up at Houogoya. If you would like to experience a classic Japanese-style mountain hut, I recommend Houogoya. You can also put up tents but the number is limited. The tent area is closed in the autumn and winter.

Day 2: Summit the 3 mountains of Mount Hour and enjoy the majestic views of its ridges.

Access:

From Nirasaki Station, take the bus going to Aoki Kosen and get off at Gozaishi Onsen.
