Al Gore draws parallels between Trump and early Nazi Germany

Al Gore launched an attack on the Trump administration saying there were 'important lessons' to be learned from similarities with the early rise of Nazi Germany.

In a speech at a climate week event in San Francisco, Gore said: 'We've already seen, by the way, how popular authoritarian leaders have used migrants as scapegoats and have fanned the fires of xenophobia to fuel their own rise to power, and power-seeking is what this is all about'

Al Gore tried to run 24 years ago, and is still younger than the current president. Isn’t that crazy?

The whole point of remembering that world tragedy is to learn lessons and not let that happen all over again.

It's a terrifying time, but I'm honestly relieved to hear not only his words but words said in the appropriate tone of urgency and outrage. This is a catastrophe happening in real time. Thank you for not sugar-coating it.

I am German. Al Gore's citation of post-war German philosophers is the most poignant. Many German have been thinking this about DT for years. Thanks for the emphatic speech that is going to wake everyone up. Let's all hope its not too late to repair the damage.

How different things would've been if he'd been elected president.

Not having Al gore and later Bernie as presidents are some of the biggest blunders of the 21st century.

For Al Gore to speak up and out, we know it's beyond serious. Mr Gore has been a silent, albeit active citizen for decades now. He rarely comments on current administrations. The tone of righteous horror he showed when talking about trump is so very much needed. Mr Gore, please continue to state the truth about trump. We, the People need you.

I grew up under a military dictatorship and one of the main reasons I moved to the US was so I wouldn't have to go through the same things a second time. Seeing ICE grab a grad student (whose only "crime" was to co-author an OpEd) and put her in an unmarked vehicle brough the worst possible kind of flashback.
I thought it couldn't happen here. I thought my children would be safe because we are in the US. I was wrong on both counts.

Al is not wrong. We need more leaders speaking truth and bringing it with strength and conviction.
