Very similar to the Canadian IMPs from 1979. We had more food though. Not just honey but peanut butter and jam in little yellow tubes. Also, coffee and creamer and hot chocolate. Plius a can opener. We NEVER ate our stuff cold.

The can with the writing "Hakkliha kaste" means minced meat sauce and the sardines were actually european sprats.
I have never seen these in person and i live next to a military base in kuperjanov.
Thank you for making this review of the ration pack.
Greetings from estonia.

It seems the American MRE's have more snacks. Cookies, Pound cake, muffin tops, pretzles etc.

Ahhh....good old Estonian rations :D. Snäkebrod or that "cracker bread" became a legendary food item. It was mostly used for starting fires during colder nights, great tinder. It was simply so dry and every combat pack came with it that people had no where to put it, no one wanted to eat it.

Don't get me wrong, such dry bread is great food in everyday life but during training it's too much and too dry. Maybe half of one pack would be great. 2 packs is overkill. It's like trying to stuff your mouth with digestive biscuits, your mouth will run out of saliva.

great review mister, when i served my country for 11 months i had to  consume many of those bad boys. Notice the number 3 on the pack, there are like 7 different ones if i remember correctly, this one is average.

About the musli, we always used hot water and if you use too much water / cold water it really messes with the taste. That was my favorite food big time, now im missing it and am really hungry

You sir, got yourself a new sub right there! I wish id known your channel back then when i was in the finnish army... i would have sent you a finnish army ration bag, since many of those products in the estonian one are actually finnish products! Keep up the good work!

I like that they were still using cans in 2014. Cheaper and easier to source. Needs at least an esbit stove to heat up, but we heat up water for tea/coffee anyway.

gundog4314 That "candy bar" at 12:10 is called a Halva. If precise thats a Chocolate Halva.  Really delicious thing i must say.
Nice review overall, I`ve searched for estonian MRE unboxing a little time already :D ! I`m Estonian myself.

I think the "Sardines" are actually kippered herring as sardines are even smaller than the herring in that can and you would actually get a lot more per can. I've had kippered herring before and it looked like the ones you had.

Yes, that is tomato sauce - the fish are actually sprats (sprotid) so not *technically* a sardine but often mistaken for one.
The other can says it is meat sauce with potatoes.

Bread and meat and fish. I would expect nothing less. I grew up with my Estonian family and yeah...there's a lot of dark, rich breads (nothing like the American supermarket breads, mind you - that isn't real bread at all - we had REAL bread), a lot of fish e.g. pickled herring and so on, and generally things that would give you a lot of calories in a northern country like Estonia. Honestly, I don't know how my Grandmother was always skinny - she would put a lot of butter on thick slabs of heavy bread and never gained anything.

This ration pack is much better than the American MRE-s. I have watched most of Kiwi Dude reviews and American (also many "modern" MRE-s) are full of plastic and cardboard. I prefer tins, because they have more uses. You can boil water in them, create a improvised nailbomb or shaped charge, store goods in...Also, you can heat the meals more and kill off any harmful bacteria. They are heavier, but you save space for other things. Like matches and dry foods (jerky/freeze dried meats, flour, seasonings, little packets of sauces). You can carry 3 times the nutrition and rations with a gas travel stove. And the mentioned ingrediants above. Or you can swap the gas stove for matches and tinder... save weight and room for more ammo/combat gear. I would personally carry more matches. They are quite good trade items for local fresh ingrediants. Trade a box of matches for a couple of potatoes, carrots or something...

Also, im an estonian.

Thank you gundog. Going to Estonia for military excersize in couple of days. Worth for trading to Lithuanian MREs :D

Soldiers must be issued some kind of mess kit. Seems kind of awkward to eat directly out of those cans, especially in the field. Interesting video. Glad u got a hold of one of those.

It seems the Estonian rat pack relies quite heavily on Finnish products. An interesting review. Definitely giving you props for tasting all the products :-)
