Elephants of Horton Plains | Sri Lanka

Today, the only elephants in Sri Lanka's wet zone are found at Adam's Peak wilderness area and the Sinharaja Forest Complex. But at one time, elephants lived at Horton Plains too. But, what happened to them?

I'm not sure if there is one, but near Baker's Fall, there should be a plaque saying how many elephants he killed in the Horton Plains and how it led to the disappearance of elephants.
