I just found this interesting video and I am very impressed with your knowledge of my family! Cristobal De Onate was my great great grandfather father going back over 500 years and yes Cristobal was known as a benevolent Conquistador often giving money to native villages and treating the natives kindly compared to other Conquistadors like Guzman. Another grandfather going back over 500 years was Balthazar Temino de Banuelos who as you know was another founder of Zacatecas and was also a very wealthy mine owner. As far as Cristobal he was a Basque born in Vitoria, Spain, I have not found any Jewish ancestors but his wife, my great great grandmother Catalina De La Cadena Y Salazar was definitely of Jewish ancestry in her real last name was Halevi and her father Gonzalo De Salazar was the first baptized Christian in Granada after the reconquesta. Gonzalo's father was a Jewish convert who was the personal doctor to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.

I love your short NM History segments. Thank you for this! Also, the portrait on your wall of the old man and woman looks like my grandmother's parents. Do you mind saying who they are? ¡MuchisimasGracias!

My 17th great grandparents were pascuala Bernal and a Greek man named lazaro. They met in New Mexico and I never knew this. All my dads side of the family is from Zacatecas. We’re people from New Mexico going south? And if so why? Thank you
