So Silvery Barbs...it's a pretty crazy if not overpowered spell. So that being said...how can we make it even better than before? Well that's the purpose of this video. Let's talk about as many interesting interactions this spell can have with monsters, class abilities, feats etc. Also can it almost rewind time?

Thanks for watching!

You can't stop legendary resistance from working, but you can make a creature use its legendary resistance when they succeed on their initial saving throw. It shines in the high end encounters by helping to ensure spells are chewing away at legendary resistance uses, especially so if there are multiple party members capable of casting silvery barbs.

Guard: *hears caster sneaking*
Caster: "it's probably nothing"
Guard: "yeah, you're right, I must be hearing things..."
*continues to patrol for a second*
"HEY WAIT, WHO SAID THAT!?"

Legendary Resistance does not care about the die roll, even if the creature was Stunned or Paralyzed and automatically fails Strength/Dexterity saves, legendary resistance still gives it a success, barbs can be useful to force a creature to use legendary resistance, but once its been used you cannot change the outcome of that save, it will always succeed.
Silvery Barbs specifically says you target an ally as part of the spell which should trigger Voice of Authority.
Unfortunately Silvery Barbs has wording that puts it in the same category as Dragon's Breath which will likely mean Crawford will rule it cannot be Split/Twinned because it already targets two creatures. It's dumb but them's the breaks.

silvery barbs targets two creatures as a base line, just giving them different effects, split enchantment doesnt work.

I just realized something. ABERRANT MIND SORCERERS can learn it as a psionic spell and can cast it using only one sorcery point per cast and it become subtle. A level 6 aberrant mind sorcerer could cast this spell 10 times without having metamagic addept. Is going to be really awesome being hidden in a crowd and use it subtle to make an acrobat fail.

It sounds to me that the creature has to take the “13, ” because that is the “lower” roll, and not the lowest roll. So, it would count the advantage 20 as a single roll, and then the 13 would be the second, lower roll

As for Legendary Resistance i read it as targeting the save
"The Creature saves Instead" ignores the result of any roll the trigger caused, so no matters how many times silvery barbs made the creature rolls, the Creature automatically succeeds that save regardless.
And i mean is a lvl 1 spell, reguardless if that is the reading or not, i dont think any GM would read it in other way

Silvery Barbs targets two creatures so can’t be used on Split Enchantment.
Can’t force a re-roll on a legendary resistance, since it’s not a roll.

On pg 177 of the PHB it says "You can't hide from a creature that can see you, and if you make noise (such as shouting a warning or knocking over a vase), you give away your position." Silvery barbs has a verbal component. Therefore I would say that even if casting silvery barbs makes the guard's perception check fail, your position would still be given away. (Subtle spell would get around this)

Definitely doesn't work on Legendary Resistance, it's supposed to be an auto-success. But even if it wasn't, I would argue the legendary creature didn't succeed the saving throw, therefore the reaction isn't met in the first place, it's only afterwards that the creature chooses to pass the save.

Last part for stealth, i would just rule it like a jedi mind trick.
"You did not see me." * hand wave *
Pretty simple solution honestly.

People need to consider this passage when thinking about this spell:

“When you have advantage or disadvantage and something in the game, such as the halfling's Lucky trait, lets you reroll the d20, you can reroll only one of the dice. You choose which one. For example, if a halfling has advantage or disadvantage on an ability check and rolls a 1 and a 13, the halfling could use the Lucky trait to reroll the 1.”

Guard: *spots arcane trickster*
Arcane trickster: Look over there!! *casts silvery barbs*
Guard: *fails Perception check* AHH... what was I doing again?

The term “Legendary” in the abilities name should give clear clue that it would not be affected by Silvery Barbs, a 1st level spell

Sounds like the whole lucky feat debate all over again. The debate that ended with JC confirming mega advantage

Silvery Barbs specifically triggers off an attack roll, saving throw, or an ability check.

A legendary resistance is neither of those.

Has anyone mentioned that Silvery Barbs is really strong competitor for the 1st level slot of Spell Mastery. Being able to cast Silvery Barbs without using a spell slot is really strong considering that the effect of Silvery Barbs doesn't have to be cast at higher levels to be effective throughout a spell caster's career.

You can also be a artificer 2, custom lineage, take fey touched at level 1, and then at second level use the create magic item infusion to create spell wrought tattoos with silvery barbs, then put it on yourself and some allies, and then get at will silvery barbs until the tattoo expires (8 hours later) and soon after you can take another long rest and get more

And no, Legendary Resistance does not give you a trigger for silvery barbs. You don’t successfully roll. You just chose to succeed.

For your last stealth example, you would use SB like the Jedi mind trick. Using the magic of SB to overwrite the interaction altogether for the individual who noticed you i.e. "You did not see me. There is nothing to notice over here."
