There are already kitchens which does cook a burger from both sides. Gas stations in Norway uses this tech and so does most fast food restaurants.

When I worked McDonald's the grill was a flip down top that cooked the burger from both sides, so that is already in place.

In Burger King they put the burgers on a rack and it cooks on both sides at once and doesn't require a robot flipper and they've been doing that for years.

Clamshell cooking for burgers (the thing David describes as cooking the burger on both sides at once) already exists, though currently they still need humans to put them on the grill and pull them off again.

When I shop (at around 2am) there are no cashiers, only the self checkouts. One day I had bad luck and the system was updating and the clerks couldnt check me out either. Had to wait about 10 mins.

I already NEVER use the self-checkout aisles in supermarkets, I go through a manned checkout.
