Live-streamed on: July 31, 2024

Adam Johnson, co-host of the Citations Needed podcast & writer at The Column newsletter on SubStack, discusses labor unions efforts to gain commitments from the Harris campaign to stop sending military aid to Israel.

Adam Johnson and Sam then walk through the major push by unions in recent months to challenge the Biden Administration’s support for and arming of Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Gaza, with Shawn Fain going as far as to consider the UAW unendorsing Biden, before looking to the current moment, tackling their response to Harris all-but taking Biden’s place on the ticket. Stepping back, Adam walks through the evolution of the Biden Administration’s approach to the “ceasefire” demand, from banning the use of related terms outright to now using the hope of one (and the supposed negotiations) as a tantalizing carrot, redefining the conversation away from the US using their leverage to push a cessation of hostilities to now what is largely an Israeli PR strategy focused on the supposed “facilitation” of negotiations, despite the obvious bad faith intentions. Wrapping up, Johnson assesses the narrative around Harris’ approach to Gaza, why her stance remains unclear to both unions and the public, and what to expect from her campaign moving forwards.

I was polled the other day over the phone by a local Democrat group and they asked what is your most important policy you're voting on right now and how strong is your vote for Harris... I said Ceasefire in Gaza and only as strong as to not let the other guy in office. She should also remember that flag burning is protected free speech and it and protest are both guaranteed under the first amendment.

Upon learning its history, and adding up all the most current events, I can only surmise that Israel is a liability rather than an asset. Even to its own Israelis.

Please bring Adam Johnson back, regularly.
He points out the Democrat's lip service, their supporters apologetics, and especially points out Sam's wishful thinking and projection.

Edit* making more gooder

I hope this disabuses anyone who claims to care about Palestine from being positive about meaningless gestures from Harris and just admit genocide is a secondary issue to them.

"Well we were going to make them act right... then they started donating millions to our campaigns, from the billions we gave them. So we just did that again instead."

Whatever AIPAC wants is what really matters in the U.S. .

I agree that she needs to take stand and honestly let us know where she in on Gaza. My voting for her is completely contingent on her Palestinian position.

Harris Policy is both parties policy and President Kennedy said it best Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what your country can do for Israel

Adam’s podcast Citations Needed is amazing. I think most Majority Report listeners would enjoy it.

@~32:15, Exactly! Boycotting Netanyahu's speech is a completely hollow gesture, and strictly performative.
Words alone just aren't enough, and we've been letting the Dems skate by on this type of ineffectual tripe for decades now.
To paraphrase my favorite fallen angel, "Politic better!!!"

I think not picking picking Shapiro for VP would be the absolute least that Harris could do to signal even the slightest break from Hiden on Israel.

Johnson is great on Twitter and impressive here; tbh his analysis of what foreign policy will be like under Harris seems more astute than Vigeland and Seder who seem to almost be wishing for a Harris that will never occur.

Cease fire = Palestinian prisoners stated that any released were told not to celebrate because they would be taken back once negotiated time lapsed. Soldiers stationed to watch all of them

16:49, well yeah no duh. But what shes planning and what we let her do can be 2 completely diffrent things. Thats why we can't let her pick be Shapiro without abandoning her, pushback is the only way forward. We must make it clear that any continuation of support for a gin 0 side is a step too far. Any support at all.

Netanyahu's appearance before congress, apart from anything else, was a kick in the face to US democracy. The majority of Americans, I assume, want an end to the genocide, but their political representatives have been bought by the Israel lobby so Netanyahu gets multiple standing ovations.

Liberals need to use their vote and support to push her on real policy. Failing to do so because she speaks in complete sentences and has softer rhetoric is pathetic. Similarly, identity politics alone isn't going to save us from AIPAC and corporate influences.
