NOAA Released Its Most Aggressive Hurricane Season Forecast On Record

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released its outlook for the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season today, and it's the most aggressive forecast on record. Our hurricane expert Dr. Rick Knabb breaks it down.

Even if the Atlantic/Caribbean are super warm, it all depends on the upper-level wind shear. Normally, a La Nina will create favorable conditions for hurricane development. But there's always a lag between the ENSO La Nina state and when the atmosphere gets "coupled" with it. In other words, although the ENSO 3.4 zone might have cooler than average SSTs (beyond - 0.5 C) by July, it may take several more months before the upper-air responds to it. By the time the atmosphere responds, it could be toward the end of the Atlantic hurricane season. We'll see. I'm hoping for the best for my East Coast friends!
