Nightwish has used later this song (Roll Tide) as their intro. Giving nice goosebumps when the track picks up a notch in the end and the drummer shows up on his raiser!

"Crimson Tide And Deep Blue Sea" is such epic double-dip movie soundtrack cover by early era Nightwish. I remember when I bought the "From Wishes to Eternity" live-DVD (back in early 2000's) which had this track, I was blown away by the sheer talent, scale and passion these young guns showed on stage.

I always thought (back then) that Nightwish will continue doing different movie instrumental covers when they go live. That didn't pan out, tho they did cover tracks from other metal bands like Wasp's "Wild Child", Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train", Dio's "Don't Talk to Stranger" or Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" etc. These were done in Tarja-era during early to mid 2000's, whenever Tarja went to prep/chill backstage and band had to/had opportunity to do these covers.

Personal take: Not to take anything away what they have done since, but I do miss above mentioned "off-rails" Nightwish, where they were regularly jamming/rocking out to tunes other than their own as they do absolutely cracking job on it. Nowadays it's rarity.

PS. I usually don't write this long, but for true Nightwish diggers like this channel has + Olly himself, it's sharing and caring NW-experiences both ways. Cheers. :)

I am glad you got your Epica tickets. They did an amazing job covering this piece of music. They look like babies. lol They are so talented. I am glad that they have Marko on bass now. I don't think Sami would have lasted this long any way. He had no life to him on stage. I think all the people they need are here now. Thanks for pulling this one out. Yup, a Zimmer piece alright. Fun fact: Mr. Zimmer is aware of this and has come to consider Tuomas pretty much an equal, saying something along the lines of him and Tuomas playing a musical game of chess. ^_^

Oh ya! Back when the guitar was more of a focal point of Nightwish music. I do appreciate ALL Nightwish music, but they were much more "metal" on the earlier albums. They have matured into a more multi-dimensional band now with more symphonic, theatrical and folk elements. I sometimes wish they had more guitar parts, but I am happy with how they have evolved. They have added so many more colors to their sound...it's like a freakin' rainbow of sound now! Cheers!

Thanks, early Nightwish : ) : This proves once again their greatness (even this early period). They can take a song, make cover from it, and it sounds really great. And then there is this "Nightwish sound"... : )


Nightwish Decades CD + Blue ray (2018 tour, Buenos Aires concert) will come out in early December. Pre order time opened today.


In Poland is Mystic Festival 10.-11.6.2020 in Cracow. They informed band list there and Nightwish is one on those.
So, my guess is that after South America, they turn to Europa, to summer festivals etc. So, I guess (no fact behind this) that Nightwish will do North America tour before South America - April? Or around March - April?.

Emppu made that kind of high pitches/bandings in the solo parth with a whammy pedal. The tricks in the rythm parths are pinch harmonics. You have to stroke the string with your plec and after that you have to hit the string with the side of your thumb.

If you really want to see them with short hair, try Sacrament of Wilderness/Gethsemane from Finnish TV 1999. It's the earliest live footage that exists as far as I know. The boys just finished (no pun intended) their mandatory military service.

Lots of Nightwish in you chanel. Great band for sure.
I strongly recommend you also try Beyond the Black, a German female fronted metal band with a blend into symphonic metal. Their vocalist is a true power House. Pick any song you like, though I prefer Unbroken or Beautiful Ließ. Not sure if you find good live versions....,
